RBS TV Rio Grande (channel 9) is a television station in Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, affiliated with TV Globo, member of RBS TV and owned by Grupo RBS. RBS TV Rio Grande's studios are located at Praça Rio Grande Shopping Center, in the Prado district, and its transmitter is located in the Hidráulica district.

In 1970, citizens from Rio Grande, appointed by Plínio Nissenson, at the request of Maurício Sirotsky Sobrinho, president of Rede Brasil Sul de Comunicações, were invited to form part of a commission that pleaded for the installation of a television station in that city. Invitations were sent to Pedro Armando Gatti, Américo Papaléo, Walter Albrecht, Elcy Rodrigues Sole and Lavieira Maino Laurino, who was the chairman of the aforementioned commission.
After hard work, TV Rio Grande, channel 9, was inaugurated on October 26, 1977, in the presence of the Minister of Communications, Euclides Quandt de Oliveira. Between March and April 1978, the station was responsible for covering the red tide, an ecological disaster that occurred on the coast of Santa Vitória do Palmar.[1]
On October 1, 1983, following the standardization of RBS TV stations, it was renamed RBS TV Rio Grande. In 1990, its repeater in Praia do Cassino started operating, through channel 7 VHF. RBS TV Rio Grande again covered an ecological tragedy in August 1998, when the ship Bahamas spilled concentrated sulfuric acid into Lagoa dos Patos. The incident had international repercussions.
In July 2009, an IBOPE survey confirmed that RBS TV Rio Grande is the second broadcaster of the RBS Group with the most audience in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. According to the survey, the city of Rio Grande recorded an average share of 70, 2% in the time period from 6 am to midnight; the runner-up registered 8.6%.[2]
On November 23, 2022, as part of the celebrations of its 45th anniversary, the station migrated its facilities to Praça Rio Grande Shopping Center, along with the auxiliary studios of its sister stations, the radios Atlântida FM Zona Sul and Gaúcha Zona Sul.[3]

The station started its digital transmissions on May 20, 2014, during Jornal do Almoço, through channel 33 UHF.[4] Until 2019, the year it stopped producing local programs, the station did not show its programming in high definition, with the exception of what was broadcast by RBS TV Porto Alegre and Globo.
Transition to digital signal[edit]
The station turned off its analog signal, over VHF channel 9, on November 28, 2018,[5] as part of the federally mandated transition from analog to digital television. The station's digital signal remains on its pre-transition UHF channel 33, using PSIP to display RBS TV Rio Grande's virtual channel as 9 on digital television receivers.
Programming[edit]
The station produced, until July 31, 2019, a local block of Jornal do Almoço with 20 minutes of duration, at the time presented by Lisandra Reis. On August 19, it started to relay the regional edition of the newscast generated by RBS TV Pelotas.[6] The rest of the programming is made up of programs generated by RBS TV Porto Alegre and Globo programs.
