Gottipati Ravi Kumar is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. He is a four time MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, representing the Addanki assembly constituency[1] in Prakasam District He is also known as Bujji.[2]

Ravi Kumar won the elections of 2009, 2014 and 2019 representing three different parties from Addanki constituency. Earlier in 2004, he won from Martur constituency.[3]

Early life and education[edit]

Kumar was born in 1976 to Seshagiri Rao. He completed his intermediate studies, the pre university course, at Vidwan Junior College in Guntur. Later, he did his graduation from B.I.E.T. College in Davangere, Karnataka in 1993. He comes from a farming family and runs his own business.

Political career[edit]

Kumar began his political journey with the Indian National Congress Party (INC) and contested from Martur constituency in 2004. He won the 2004 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election defeating Gottipati Narasimha Rao of Telugu Desam Party by a margin of 13,806 votes.[4][5][6][7][8] Later, he was chosen as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) member in 2009 representing the Congress Party. He won the 2009 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election from Addanki constituency[9][10][11][12] representing Indian National Congress by defeating Karanam Balaram Krishna Murthy by a margin of 15,764 votes. He later joined YSRCP and won from Addanki constituency in the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election defeating Karanam Venkatesh by a margin of 4,235 votes.[11][13][14][3]

On 27 April 2016, Gottipati left YSRCP and joined Telugu Desham Party[15] in the presence of the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.[16][17][18] In 2019 General Elections was elected again from Addanki Constituency representing Telugu Desam Party as he defeated Bachina Chenchu Garataiah of YSR Congress Party by a margin of 12,991 votes.[2][19][20][21][22] He is the only candidate, who won in 2019 from among the 23 YSRCP MLAs who defected to the TDP after the 2014 elections.
