Tyler Gavin Junior Smith (born 4 December 1998) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bradford City.

Career[edit]

Sheffield United[edit]

Born in Sheffield, Smith began his career with Sheffield United.[2] He was a ballboy with the club.[3] He spent the first half of the 2018–19 season on loan at Barrow,[2] before moving on loan to Doncaster Rovers in January 2019.[4] He scored two goals on his debut on 19 January 2019, and was praised by manager Grant McCann as being "a star in the making".[5] In July 2019 he moved on loan to Bristol Rovers for the 2019–20 season.[6] In January 2020 was joined Rochdale on loan.[7]

On 6 August 2020 he moved on loan to Swindon Town for the 2020–21 season.[8] On 8 September 2020 he scored his first goal for Swindon in an EFL Trophy tie against West Bromwich Albion U21s.[9]

Hull City[edit]

He signed for Hull City in August 2021,[10] and made his debut for the club on 28 August in a 0–0 home draw against AFC Bournemouth.[11] He scored his first goal for the club within the 1st minute of an FA Cup match against Everton on 8 January 2022.[12]

In January 2023 Smith joined Oxford United on loan until the end of the season.[13][14]

Smith was released by Hull City at the end of the 2022–23 season.[15]

Bradford City[edit]

After his release, Smith signed a three-year deal with Bradford City.[16][17][18] After the first few matches of the 2023–24 season, he said he was looking forward to playing more football.[19] He scored his first goal for Bradford on 29 August 2023, in the EFL Cup.[20] He later said the squad was deep enough to cope without injured fellow striker Andy Cook,[21] with Smith himself being injured a few days later.[22] On 31 October he scored a hat-trick in the EFL Trophy, to send the club through to the next round.[23] He later praised teammate Kevin McDonald, who had served as caretaker manager.[3]

After scoring the winning goal in a game against Accrington Stanley, Smith was compared to former Bradford City player Nahki Wells.[24] By December 2023, Smith had scored 6 goals in 4 games in the EFL Trophy for the club.[25] He later spoke positively about his striking partnership with Andy Cook.[26]

After losing his first-team place, on 5 March 2024, Smith scored his first goal for the club since December 2023.[27] On 23 April, in a 10 minute appearance, he scored the winning goal in the penultimate game of the season, to keep the club in contention for the play-offs.[28]

Personal life[edit]

His younger brother is fellow footballer Kyron Gordon.[29]
