Sharifani (Sindhi: شريفاڻي) or Upper Sharifani (Sindhi: مٿيان شريفاڻي) is a village in the north-west of the Sindh. Some nearby major cities are Kamber 7.3 km (4.5 mi) and Larkana 24.5 km (15.2 mi) from this village. Sharifani is one of the oldest villages of Sindh, it is about 200 years old. It was first inhabited by Hindus and its earlier name was Mehrabpur which was later renamed Sharifani for certain reasons. Agriculture is the primary occupation of the villagers, but as the population of village is increasing many people are shifting from agriculture to business, government and private industry jobs, not only this many have moved to other countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia etc., for work. Children are taught the art of farming at a very young age. The social structure of the village is patriarchal with men considered as the head of the family. Around 98% population of village is literate.

Customs And Traditions[edit]

When Pakistan got his independence from British Empire most of Hindus from this village also migrated to India too, expect the family of chief who lived next thirty years in this village. Therefore, there is no single chief at this time, but most of the time people refer Sahib Khan Kalhoro as chief, but he denie. At this, like most of the village traditions, customs and the bonds of family unity are more dominant than in the cities which is the main reason why people of the village do not migrate to cities and stick with their customs, traditions and teachings given by their ancestors, but as time passes and decline of resource people tend to move to cities for better future of family while the family members who are interested in agriculture tend to live in the village.

Travel And Transport[edit]

Most of the villagers have their personal transport and usually travel to other cities like Kamber, Larkana, Karachi, and Islamabad either to buy groceries, food or in case of emergency because this village does not have hospital or medical care, or to kill time. The school in the village is of primary level and that is why the boys or girls who pass 5th Grade travel to Khairpur Juso, the Union Council, Kamber, Larkana or Karachi for Higher Studies.

Sport[edit]

People of this village work hard all day that they rarely have enough time and energy to play sport but still they manage to play other sport. Cricket is common sport here. Nowadays, people have left playing cricket because many people have moved from village, most of them were those who were interested in playing cricket.
