Lance Hoppen (born January 9, 1954[1]) is an American bass guitarist, who is a founding member of Orleans. He is currently the only member of the classic lineup of Orleans still touring in the group.

Career[edit]

From 1968 to 1970, Hoppen was a member of Boffalongo, who recorded the original version of "Dancing in the Moonlight". In 1972, Hoppen was brought into Orleans by his older brother Larry. The band is best known for its hits "Dance with Me" (No. 6 in 1975);[2] "Still the One" (No. 5 in 1976), from the album Waking and Dreaming; and "Love Takes Time" (No. 11 in 1979).

In the 1990s, Hoppen toured with Baillie & the Boys whilst there were on a 40-day tour around the US with George Strait.[3][4] In 2017, he released his first solo album, Conjuring.[5] In 2019, he filled in for Mark Andes of Firefall, who had undergone a hip replacement.[6]

Currently, Hoppen is the only member of the classic lineup of Orleans still touring in the group.

Personal life[edit]

Hoppen was born in Long Island, New York in 1954 to Jean and Irv Hoppen.[3] He was the third of four (including Larry and Lane Hoppen).[3]
