Kanak Dhanai[1][2][3] is an Indian politician[4][5], author, and policy researcher from Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.[6][7][8]His father Dinesh Dhanai was also an independent MLA in Tehri (2012-2017).[9]

Education[edit]

Kanak Dhanai[10] completed his B.A LL.B (Hons) in Energy Laws from University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun, in 2018. He did his MSc, in Public Policy at Queen Mary University of London, graduating in 2019.[11][12][13]

Career[edit]

Kanak Dhanai has been active in policy research, activism, protest and electoral politics.[14] In 2021, he demonstrated against the incumbent government in Rishikesh leading to a seven days incarceration at Suddhowala Jail Dehradun.[15].He contested the Rishikesh assembly election as an independent candidate (Uttarakhand Janekta Party)[16][17][18] , securing third position with over 13,000 votes.[19][20][21][22] He founded the Yojna Think Tank in 2023, focusing on policies and thoughtful governance.[23][15]
