Dawn Thandeka King (born October 1, 1977) is a multi-award-winning South African actress, musician, motivational speaker and social media influencer from Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal.[1] Dawn Thandeka King is best known for her former role as MaNgcobo on the most watched and award-winning South African soap opera Uzalo. King portrayed the role of MaNgcobo for almost 7 years.
Early life & Personal life[edit]
Dawn Thandeka King was born in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal.[2] After finishing her matric, she went on to complete her drama studies at Technikon Natal (now known as DUT).[3]
King is a mother of five children.[4] She was married to Durban-based businessman Jabulani Msomi for 15 years until their marriage ended on 2017.[5]
MaNgcobo[edit]
King is well known for portraying the role of Lindiwe Ngcobo in SABC 1's Uzalo an award-winning soap opera.
Lindiwe was introduced as the wife of Gxabhashe Xulu, she is the mother to Mxolisi Xulu, character played by Nay Maps & Nosipho Xulu (Nompilo Maphumulo). MaNgcobo is a well respected figure in the community of KwaMashu. She refers herself to the King Don Father. Lindiwe was well known for heists and criminal activities working along with her son Mxolisi & Mxolisi's best friend Zweli "Mastermind " Maphumulo.
It is revealed that Mxolisi & Ayanda Mdletshe were swapped from birth. Lindiwe & Mxolisi were involved in the death of Nkosinathi who was the youngest son of the Mdletshes. Lindiwe as the hardcore gangster, she finds herself in prison as years go. She finds herself in a relationship with a man who has threatened to burn her daughter, the man who took her house & their businesses when Gxabhashe passed on.
Lindiwe found herself in a situationship when Nkunzi's girlfriend Innocentia & daughter Zekhethelo Mhlongo arrived. Nkunzi was well known for the ATM robberies by explosion. Innocentia tried to kill MaNgcobo but failed then MaNgcobo killed her by pushing the car that Innocentia was in, off the cliff.
Lindiwe & Nkunzi grow to be powerful and conquering every obstacle and enemy blocking their way to success. It happens that Nkunzi dates MaMlambo who was Lindiwe's bestfriend. Lindiwe gate crashed their wedding wearing a wedding dress, this episode had over 10 millions viewers. MaNgcobo is remembered by her famous words, "Kushadwa Kushadwani umakoti angakafiki" Nkunzi was forced to choose between them, but decided married them both at the same time.
Lindiwe also had a relationship with a man named Khathaza Khanyile who owned a funeral parlor and had came to KwaMashu to avenge the death of a close member, he believed Nkunzi was behind, but later found out Lindiwe was behind it. Lindiwe's departure was in 2021
Career[edit]
Before King's breakthrough in the acting industry, she was working a 9–5 job in the tourism industry around Durban.[6] She eventually quit her job in the tourism industry to pursue her acting career and her debut in the acting industry came in 2012 where she got a role in Mzansi Magic's telenovela Inkaba.[7] A few years later she portrayed the role of Lindiwe Xulu (Mangcobo) on a telenovela broadcast on SABC1 called Uzalo which is the most viewed television show in South Africa from 2015 to 2021.[8][9] Her character was well received by the audience with King receiving praise for her acting skills.[10] She starred in the telenovela Lockdown on Mzansi Magic where she was known as Mazet.She is also seen in Mzansi Bioskop short Zulu drama's persuading her dream career.
In 2021, after she left Uzalo she joined a new telenova called DiepCity to play a leading role.[11][12]

- She was nominated as Favourite Actress at 2020 DStv Mzansi Viewers' Choice Awards.[14][15]
