Go to Paris.

It’s been a while. I’ve been slacking on posts. I should’ve used Zoe’s BlackBerry quad-band GSM roaming mobile data to post something while in Paris. The trip was fantastic. Terrence and Yunghi were very kind to us. Their apartment in the 10th e was very nice. Terrence painted an entire wall in his style in the dining room and it works surprisingly well. Dan, Zoe’s cousin, showed up for Thanksgiving as well and Yunghi cooked a turkey she special ordered from the local butcher down the street towards the Republique Metro stop. The days were fickle with rain and clouds and occasional sun but mostly it was us walking around Paris, trying to order food and speak in French.

I even saw a young but now 24, Mercedes Gilliom, living and teaching English in Paris. Her boyfriend from Chicago was visiting, Iriwin, and we went out to a klezmer show at this little bar in the cellar where 3 euro plastic cups “un verre de vin rouge” ruled as well as heavy Belgian sweet malt ale. The band was good and the Metro runs quite frequently all over the city with stops spaced less than 1km apart.

We went to Montmarte and up the hill for the views, we went down to the Eiffel tower on several occasions until we were finally able to use the stairs, also for 3 euros. We watched the sunset the last day there from up top. We borrowed the crazy bicycles from the new Hotel du Nord, not the “real” old from the movies, and cycles all over the city on a Sunday when there are roads closed for velos and rollerbladers. The canals and the Seine were amazing.

The plane ride back Air France gave us 300 Euro vouchers to sit around the airport for a few hours. That was fine. We’ll just have to take another trip. Another low budget film has started. Shawn took us all out on Monday night to Peter Luger’s for steak. It was fantastic. The film, so far, is another story.
